The LKPA, established in 1976 by Professor John Walls, is a charity run by volunteers, mainly renal patients or relatives, for the benefit of its members, who are renal patients, relatives, carers and supporters. It is principally associated with patients throughout Leicestershire who are treated at Leicester General Hospital and its satellite units. Each renal patient is automatically a member of the LKPA.
LKPA Aims and Main Activities
The LKPA aims to support its members through provision of support and guidance via the telephone, website, newsletters; allocation of small grants for basic needs; helping to organise educational sessions; organising social events and outings (some LKPA members are unable to drive, feel isolated and maybe anxious about being in company/ travelling because of restrictions etc that their condition puts upon them).
